[punishing shot] = weak Savage Shot
[magebane shot] = weak DShot

http://www.wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/L..._ranger_skills -- scroll down to Marksmanship.
As far as interrupts + effects go, Broad Head Arrow (+daze) and Punishing Shot (+damage) are gonna be your choices. BHA is very popular for obvious reasons. I had a lot of fun with Punishing Shot, but that was ages ago.
Other popular Marksmanship elites include Barrage and Burning Arrow, if you decide to forego the interrupt (can use d-shot and others without needing the elite spot).
Good luck!

[[Barrage]. You really don't need an Elite interrupt when you have [[Distracting Shot] and [[Savage Shot]. [[Broad Head Arrow] if you want to daze.

Posted this in another thread just a few below:

If you want to interrupt, [[Magebane Shot] or [[Savage Shot] are better. They are more spammable at 5 recharge, and Magebane is unblockable.
If you want to damage, [[Burning Arrow] does the trick, or [[Melandru's Shot] if foe is immune to burning. [[Barrage] is obvious.

If you really want to interrupt, Magebane is unblockable at least, and it has half the recharge of D'Shot.
There are better choices for damage. Burning Arrow costs the same energy and has the same recharge, but does more damage overall. If you're fighting Titans or Destroyers, take Mel's Shot.

If you ask me, if you have it, use [broad head arrow]. If you are having trouble hitting with it, use [Favorable winds] and\or [Read the wind]. You won't need to wait for your target to use a long casting time-spell to interrupt\daze it, and afterwards you will interrupt it every time. What you need then is to spam attack skills, and your target will not be able to cast anything, almost.

[[broad head arrow] is a great skill for specialised situations, but it really sucks bad for general PvE. [[Favorable winds] and\or [[Read the wind] do not affect it, which means that unless you are point blanking, and especially in kitetastic HM then your shots will miss.

Lol. Bad in general PvE? In HM they move a bit more but in reality, they still don't move much especially when they are casting. The ones that move most are the melee, and if you are trying to BHA them, then you might want to read the description again.
If you still have trouble hitting, try this: Pull mob then 180 degree reverse and hit caster. More than likely they will be trying to cast a spell. And no you do not need point blank range.
BHA + [skill]epidemic[/skill] and a hero with [skill]splinter weapon[/skill] is one of the BEST way rangers can vanquish in HM.

Depends on the area.
If you are in an area filled with Monk and/or Ritualist healers, take one of the [[Broad Head Arrow] setups posted above.
If you are in an area filled with physical attackers, try bringing [[Ebon Dust Aura] and [[Volley]. This does wonders to blind attackers providing support, but also dealing some damage.
If you are looking for pure damage, have some fun with [[Expert's Dexterity] and use a Superior Marksmanship rune. Make sure to bring [[Asuran Scan] and [[Triple Shot] if you have decent ranks in the linked titles. For spiking, bring [[Hunter's Shot] and [[Savage Shot] and use these consecutively after [[Triple Shot] or [[Sloth Hunter's Shot].

Done trolling?
Monks Kite, BHA is poor in general PvE. You are better off with Vanguard Assassin Support/Finish him/Pain Inverter to shutdown/kill the likely BHA candidates, skills you should be bringing along anyhow. Save BHA for party-wipe bosses only, where it excells, save your elite slot in general PvE for something that actually does something rather than rely on the rest of the team.
And Splinter+BHA? How pointless is that?

First off, I didn't mean to sound rude. It was a joke. Now onto the arguments:
[skill]Volley[/skill] says hi.
The immensely popular Sabway, Discordway EASILY fits in Splinter weapon btw. The Sabway and Discordway also inflict poison/weakness/Cracked armor/bleeding - all these conditions make epidemic even better, not to mention provide lots of cover for daze.
So really, what do you recommend for a Ranger elite in HM PvE? Barrage Splinter with a pet?
Why use up 3 PvE skills to make up for BHA?
Bosses are one of the big reasons why parties wipe other than carelessness or stupidity. And no you do not have to rely on the rest of the team if you know how to use volley or epidemic.
Monks don't kite when surrounded by minions or busy healing. I don't have problems with kiting even in HM. Most people I know don't either.

Barrage is generally pointless when you have Volley... for 95% of PvE, you won't be hitting more than 4 enemies at a time.
["You Move Like a Dwarf!"] iz gud ferr stopin kitin
